San Bruno's City Government is suffering from the "too many chiefs and not enough indians" syndrome. One of the major factors responsible for San Bruno's growing operational budget deficit, now estimated to be somewhere between $1 million to $2 million per year, is that we have too many "managers" at desks shuffling papers being fed huge salaries, with platinum benefit and perk packages, and not enough rank and file City employees on the street delivering services directly to the people.

It appears that San Bruno's Council appointed City Treasurer John Marty and his "asleep at the wheel" style of investing San Bruno taxpayer money have resulted in what he claims to be a $1.466 million loss. However, Mr. Marty's investment activities may have resulted in losses as high as $2.246 million.

Once again, San Bruno Mayor Larry Franzella has been caught by a California State regulatory agency violating the law. In 2000, Franzella had his California Real Estate Broker's License revoked (with a right to a restricted license) by the California Department of Real Estate (California DRE case #H- 7738 SF). Now Franzella is in trouble again. This time, with the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

“I’m more interested in the return of my money than the return on my money".-----------Will Rogers As reported in the October 2nd, 2008 edition of The Daily Journal, in a story titled, Schools come to terms with market loss, the San Bruno Park School District (SBPSD) lost an estimated $680,000 of San Bruno Park School District money after SBPSD Superintendent Hutt and the Board of Trustees invested this money in the speculative County Investment Fund that was obviously mismanaged to the point where there has been a total loss of approximately $150 million.
